Ferrari's Alonso wins in China

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso emerged unscathed to win a drama-packed Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday night in Shanghai, with the Lotus of Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton holding on for second and third.

The reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel finished fourth while his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber failed to finish, losing a rear wheel after a collision only 17 laps into the race.

It was a nightmare weekend for Webber who had to start from pit lane after his team failed to give him enough fuel in qualifying, then decided to make some modifications to his car just before the start of the race proper.

Fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo recorded his best-ever finish, crossing the line in seventh spot just behind Jenson Button and Felipe Massa.

Alonso, a two-time world champion, said he was delighted to get his season back on track after retiring early in Malaysia last month.

Sebastian Vettel leads the championship by three points from Kimi Raikkonen with another six points back to Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton is 12 points behind Vettel.
