Crest Energy says it's disappointed with local response to a plan for a tidal power station in Kaipara harbour.
Kaipara mayor Neil Tiller, tangata whenua and fishermen are all critical of a plan for 200 turbines to be installed on the seabed: they say not enough is known about the impact on fish.
Crest Energy director Anthony Hopkins says the power station would create jobs in Kaipara and produce 200 megawatts of electricity.
He says that is enough to power the region from the Auckland Harbour bridge, to Cape Reinga.
Mr Hopkins says the company is now doing more research on the possible impact of the turbines on the Kaipara fishery, as directed by the Environment Court.
Crest Energy says tidal power stations are operating off the coast of Scotland, England, Ireland and Canada.
Todd Energy has a 30% holding in Crest.
