The Privacy Commissioner says Government agencies need to work harder to earn back public trust following the series of high profile privacy breaches this year.
Commissioner Marie Shroff has released her annual report, naming 2012 the year of the Data Breach.
Mrs Shroff says an ACC spreadsheet breach in March and an MSD kiosk breach in October have highlighted the urgent need for better security around private information.
She says recent polls suggest up to 60% of people don't trust the Government to handle their information safely.
