Christchurch City Council candidate Ali Jones has won the right to a recount.

In last month's local body elections she lost the Innes ward seat to the incumbent, three-term councillor Pauline Cotter, by just 16 votes.

A judge has granted her application for a recount, which Jones believes will be done by Tuesday.

"Thank you to everyone who has sent me supportive and kind messages over the last couple of weeks," Jones wrote on her Facebook campaign page.

"It's been a real roller coaster."

New mayor Phil Mauger has already appointed Cotter as his deputy.

A similar attempt by former Gore Mayor Tracy Hicks to contest his eight-vote loss to Ben Hicks with a recount was dismissed by a judge earlier this week.
