The Wellington golfer Mark Brown's dropped further down the leaderboard after a one over par third round of 73 at the Italian Open in Turin.

Brown's now in a share of 51st, 17 strokes from the leader, Sweden's Fredrik Andersson Hed, who shot an even more spectacular penultimate round of nine under 63.

He now leads by six shots over Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez.

A par round for the 17-year-old Italian star Matteo Manassero has seen him drop down 13 places to a tie for 23rd on debut.

As an amateur Manassero last month became the youngest player to make a cut at the US Masters.
