07:01 am on 29 July 2005

The government of Solomon Islands has approved an Indigenous Business Policy to encourage local commerce.

When tabling the Foreign Investment Bill in Parliament, the Minister for Commerce, Industries and Employment, Walton Naezon said this would be the first policy that will allow the Government to establish programmes to promote and support local businesses.

He says the Government will pursue a strong business policy in the coming years, and told Parliament that a viable economy requires participation and partnership.

Debate on the new Foreign Investment Bill continues.
