"Fencer Fred", as he likes to be known, has spent nearly three decades lugging fence posts and number 8 wire to the remotest reaches of farms in the country.
He said it was a great life, camping out and working hard building the vital infrastructure needed to keep stock on farm and delineate boundaries.
He says New Zealand fencers are among the best in the world.
