Cooks minimum wage earners get more

06:50 am on 7 April 2017

The Cook Islands government has announced a seventy five cents increase to the minimum wage

Approved by Cabinet this week, the increase takes the minimum hourly wage from $6.25 cents to $7

The wage increase was announced by Internal Affairs minister Albert Nicholas who said it was fully supported by Cabinet and based on the recommendations of the Minimum Wage Review Committee

Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Paul Allsworth said the increase was "very timely" and although small would help people cope better with the cost of living in the Cook islands.
