Zions Bank of Utah is now the official bank for the American Samoa Government.
The government, which has been a Bank of Hawaii customer for decades, has signed documents transitioning its accounts to Zions bank.
The Bank of Hawaii will close its operations in Pago Pago in March.
The Treasurer, Falema'o Dr Phil Pili, says the government has 26 different bank accounts and the main ones are grants, general fund and payroll.
A Zions executive, Jacob Hugely, says the bank is looking at offering wire transfer services.
"And we have the ability to send this money in foreign currencies which can help with the exchange rate exposure, so that would allow for the margins that are typically placed on transactions overseas to be eliminated, thus saving the ASG money and time in those processes as well."
The American Samoa government hopes to move all government accounts over to Zions by October the 1st.
