Missing divers found

18:01 pm on 30 March 2013

Police say the three divers reported missing off the Kapiti Coast have been rescued and are safe and well.

A major search and rescue operation was sparked at about midday on Saturday when two men and one woman from a dive party of five were swept away from their boat.

They were found north-west of Kapiti Island by a rescue boat about two hours later.

Inspector Simon Perry says the divers had been in the water for about four hours, but are in good spirits.

"They did everything right, they stuck together, they had the inflatable devices which they put up which enabled one of the rescue vessels to see them, they also had a torch going and whistles - so they were well equipped."
