Nauru says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Israel, pledging to continue collaboration on sustainable development issues.
The memorandum was signed by the two countries' foreign ministers, Kieren Keke and Avigdor Lieberman.
A statement says though separated by thousands of miles, Nauru and Israel both have dry climates and the associated challenges it poses to agriculture and water conservation.
The impacts of climate change have intensified the difficulties for both nations and the need to cooperate on the use of specialised technology and knowledge is more important than ever before.
