A Qantas Airbus A380 jetliner, the largest in the world, made an emergency landing at Fiji's Nadi International Airport because a passenger became ill aboard the flight.

The paper, the Sydney Morning Herald, says the double-deck aircraft was on a Los Angeles to Sydney flight when it diverted to Nadi on Sunday.

The stricken passenger was taken to Nadi Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

The 343 passengers aboard the flight were accommodated in Nadi-area hotels.

Pacific Magazine Online says the A380 began service with Qantas in October.
