Canterbury shaken by magnitude 5.1 earthquake

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck in Canterbury.

GeoNet said the quake hit at 9.21pm on Monday and was centred 30 kilometres west of Methven, at a depth of 5 kilometres.

More than 4000 people have reported to Geonet's website that they felt the shake, which the agency describes as 'light'
