Gang member in custody on attempted murder charge

A gang member who police say shot at an officer in Auckland has appeared in court.

Murray Toleafoa was arrested on Tuesday with two of his associates and has been charged with attempted murder.

A patrol was carrying out a routine stop in central Auckland last Friday and a constable was trying to retrieve the keys from the driver when a shot was fired.

The officer suffered burns to his forearm in the incident.

Mr Toleafoa has been remanded in custody until July.
