A defeated member of the opposition Samoa Democratic United Party Patu Ativalu is filing a petition against one of the two elected members of Parliament from Vaimauga West.

Patu is challenging the election of Anauli Pofitu Fesili of the Human Rights Protection Party.

Patu told the Samoa Observer that he has rejected a cultural approach to drop his petition but he did not say who made the approach.

Patu also declined to give details of his petition, saying he doesn't want to reveal this before any court case.

The two seats for Vaimauga West were won by Anauli who received 1,422 votes and SDUP's Sililoto Tolo Tuaifaiva with 1,322 votes.

Patu was third with 1,286 votes.
