An Auckland woman, whom RNZ understands is an Auckland primary school teacher, has been charged with indecent assault and grooming of a young person.

Police launched an investigation into the woman, who is in her 30s, last month after the matter was reported to them, a spokesperson said.

She faced charges of indecent assault of a boy under 12 and grooming for sexual conduct with a young person.

She was remanded on bail, and was due to reappear in North Shore District Court on 15 November.

"Police enquiries are ongoing, with the support of Oranga Tamariki," the spokesperson said.

"As the matter is before the court, police will not be providing any further details."

RNZ understands a meeting took place at the school on Monday evening, with families of current students and police in attendance.

A letter that police sent to parents on Monday said police and Oranga Tamariki staff wished to speak to students who are "potentially affected", and asked for consent.

RNZ understands the interviews with students have been taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
