Australia deploys Defence Force to Solomon Islands for elections

Australia has started deploying the first of hundreds of security forces to the Solomon Islands, ahead of April elections.

Australia's Defence Force is sending four military helicopters and 200 personnel.

The forces will assist local police and the Electoral Commission with transport and logistical support.

New Zealand is deploying 55 Defence Force personnel and two military helicopters in its assistance with the elections.
