The Fonterra-owned company has launched a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week trading platform to compliment its existing fortnightly auction and also a subscription service providing up-to-date data from both platforms.

Executive director Eric Hansen is talking clients and prospective clients at the American Dairy Products Industries Conference in Chicago.

He said it was important to understand their needs.

"Our customers are business customers, so all our services are all business-to-business operations.

"Our customers on the seller side are primarily the manufacturers of dairy products."

The customers used GDT's services as a way of helping to sell internationally and were also looking at domestic opportunities, he said.

The company was truly global with buyers scattered around the world, he said.
