Owners of leaky buildings have filed a $200 million class action claim against cladding manufacturer James Hardie.
Adina Thorn Lawyers filed the claim in the High Court in Auckland yesterday on behalf of the owners of more than 1000 units and houses.
It is the third claim against the company, after Parker and Associates filed two earlier this year, accusing James Hardie of negligence in the design and supply of its Harditex cladding system.
Lead lawyer for the latest claim Adina Thorn said many older people have had their retirement plans destroyed by financial and health problems related to their leaky homes, and the size of the action highlighted the scale of the problem.
