Phoenix sign Nathan Burns

The Wellington Phoenix have signed the former Australian representative, Nathan Burns, on a two-year contract.

Burns began his career with Adelaide United and has since played in Greece and Korea before rejoining the A-League with Newcastle last season.

The coach, Ernie Merrick, says the 26-year-old's ability to play midfield, wing or striker, is something he's been looking for.

The club refused to comment on the status of negotiations with the New Zealand and Central Coast Mariners midfielder, Michael McGlinchey, after news of his signing was announced by the Australian Football Federation two weeks ago, before being shot down shortly after.
