House, contents and car insurance levies will rise by about $40 a year to fund the new unified national fire and emergency services.
The levy on house and contents insurance will increase by $36 to approximately $127 a year, and the levy for car insurance will rise to just over $8.
Minister of Internal Affairs Peter Dunne said the new rates would ensure that the new organisation, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, had the necessary funding to deliver essential fire and emergency services to both rural and urban communities.
"[The new organisation] involves bringing together 40 organisations and over 14,000 volunteer and paid, urban and rural firefighters and personnel under one umbrella," Mr Dunne said
