A section of central Dunedin is closed after a suspicious package was found this morning at the Community Corrections office.
The package was reported to the police about 10.15am.
Community Corrections is located in Lower Stuart Street.
Otago Coastal Area Commander Inspector James Ure said the building, including a retail premises on the ground floor, has been evacuated as a precaution and the front section of the build has been cordoned off.
Stuart Street itself is not closed to the public, he said.
"Police are currently waiting for specialist staff to examine the package," Ure said.
"The area is expected to remain closed for the next few hours and people are asked to avoid this part of Stuart Street where it intersects with Moray Place."
