Taxi drivers refuse to work from Auckland Airport

09:54 am on 7 December 2013

About 150 taxi drivers have decided not to work from Auckland Airport until a dispute with the company is resolved.

The drivers from smaller companies say unfair changes have left them scraping to earn $5 an hour providing a service to airport customers.

The association drew up a list of demands, two of which the airport company says it will act on, including building new facilities for waiting drivers.

But the company has said it won't relocate ranks or a shuttle service, and a minimum short fare of $20 won't be raised to $35 as the taxi association wanted.

Association spokesperson Manmohan Singh says the company he works for, President Taxis, won't pick up or drop people off at the airport from Monday because their contract has ended.
