The National Party has won the most votes in the 2017 general election, but neither it nor Labour can form a government alone.

In the coming days both parties will be negotiating with the man who will decide - New Zealand First leader Winston Peters.

Look back on RNZ's live coverage as Morning Report speaks to party leaders, as well as our in house experts, as post-election negotiations begin.

  • National has won 46.0 percent of the vote based on the preliminary result (which excludes special votes)
  • Labour is on 35.8 percent, NZ First is on 7.5 percent and the Green Party has 5.9 percent
  • No party has enough to govern alone
  • The Māori Party has lost all its seats in Parliament
