The Papua New Guinea Hunters beat the Northern Pride 18-8 in Port Moresby to stay within reach of the playoff spots in the Intrust Super Cup.

Centre Adex Wera and fullback Edene Gebbie scored in either half for the home side, who led 6-4 at the interval, while captain Ase Boas added two conversions and three penalty goals.

The defending champions, who bounced back from a home defeat by Redcliffe last week, climbed one place to tenth in the overall standings, two points behind the sixth placed Souths Logan Magpies, but with a much inferior points differential.

There are six games to play in the regular season with the Hunters hosting the fourth-placed Norths Devils in Lae on Sunday.
