US military on recruitment visit to American Samoa

Military recruiters from the United States are on a routine visit in American Samoa to try to find young people to enlist.

The drive is being carried out by the Portland Battalion which is responsible for enlisting recruits for the Pacific region which includes Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa.

The US military has been faced with difficulties to get soldiers following the commitements in Iraq.

Sgt Major Rudolph Jackson says the Army is focusing major attention on educational and career opportunities to entice new enlistments from the territory.
