North Shore mayor Andrew Williams says his city wants some assistance should it contribute toward turning an Auckland wharf into "party central" for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Auckland Regional Council and the Government have jointly bought the Queens Wharf.

Auckland City Council is being asked to provide up to $84 million for the upgrade.

Andrew Williams, who along with the region's other mayors toured the wharf site on Friday, says he likes the plans and North Shore council would be interested in contributing.

But he says it should also look across the harbour and help with a tidy-up of the Devonport wharf which attracts a lot of tourists.
