A Paris court has annulled the contract of the company running the Tahiti airport.
A 30-year contract had been given to the company ADT in 2010 despite objections by the commune of Faa'a where French Polynesia's international airport is located.
Radio 1 reported that the objections were repeatedly rejected until the administrative appeal court found that the contract had been awarded without first going out to tender.
It said the court ordered the French state to terminate the deal within 12 months.
There has been no reaction to the ruling, with the radio saying the French state was now in campaign mode.
