A worker at Wellington's port has died when he was caught between a forklift and cargo during a warehouse packing operation.
CentrePort chief executive Blair O'Keeffe said workers were mourning the loss of a close friend and colleague who had worked at the port for nine years.
He said the main concern is to provide support to his family and to staff.
The company said it was working with the police and the Department of Labour to investigate the incident, which occured just after midnight Saturday.
