New Zealand's foreign minister is travelling to the Cooks Islands today for annual ministerial consultations.
Mr Peters will be joined by fisheries minister Stuart Nash and Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Fletcher Tabuteau for the meeting on Aitutaki.
The talks come ahead of the Cook Islands' expected graduation to high-income country status next year, the first Pacific country to do so since New Caledonia in 2000.
Mr Peters said this represents a serious achievement for the Cook Islands and it's timely to discuss how the two countries can work closely together.
