A 32-year-old Chinese man has been charged in relation to a crash that killed a five-year-old Oamaru girl in North Otago yesterday.
Eight people were also taken to hospital after a rented ute and station wagon collided head-on on State Highway One, near Moeraki, just before 5pm.
The girl was in the station wagon with two adults and two other children, aged 7 and 9, who were all flown to Dunedin Public Hospital with serious injuries.
They remain in serious, but stable condition in hospital today.
Four people from the other vehicle, all Chinese nationals, were taken to Oamaru Hospital, with three suffering minor injuries.
The fourth person, a middle-aged woman, remains in hospital with moderate injuries.
The 32-year-old man is to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow, facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing injury.
Police plan to release the name of the five-year-old girl tomorrow.
