Meat processing business Silver Fern Farms is proposing closing its Christchurch cool store, with the loss of 28 staff.
The company said the Belfast cool store was surplus to requirements thanks to a redeveloped cool store at Pareora in South Canterbury and better management of its inventory.
It said it hoped to keep all of its staff on through redeploying them to either its Belfast beef plant, its Fairton lamb plant or its Pareora site.
