Manufacturer export sales soar

Confidence among manufacturers and their export sales are improving strongly despite the very high New Zealand dollar.

The latest survey by the Manufacturers and Exporters Association shows confidence among its members jumped to 20 points in June from 16 points in May.

Respondent's overall sales rose more than 12 percent in May compared with the same month last year, while their export sales leapt more than 23 percent.

The survey covered $481 million of annualised sales with exports accounting for half that.

The association's members are also hiring more people with staff numbers rising more than 5 percent compared with a year ago.
