Taiwan and its six Pacific allies meet in Majuro

14:47 pm on 11 October 2007

The second Taiwan Pacific allies Summit gets underway in the Marshall Islands capital, Majuro tomorrow.

Taiwan's President, Chen Shui-bian will join the leaders of the Marshall Islands, Palau, Solomon Islands, Nauru, and Tuvalu, as well as the vice president of Kiribati.

Our correspondent in the Marshall Islands, Giff Johnson, says a number of issues will be tabled during the two day meeting.

"This summit follows on from the first one held a year ago in Palau, and the Palau Summit essentially focussed on kind of a laundry list of about half a dozen key regional issues ranging from medical and health supports to economic development to environmental and cultural issues and exchanges."
