The outgoing director general says the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, Dr Jimmy Rodgers, is to help the Pacific develop a smarter, more unified approach to sustainable development.
Its governing body, the Conference of the SPC, has just finished its bi-ennial meeting in Suva, where the theme was Enhancing Sustainable Development in the Pacific Community.
Dr Rodgers says they are putting the focus on the post 2015 development agenda - what happens at the end of the Millennium Development Goals, and how does the Pacific have more say.
He says there needs to be co-ordinated regional approach and a key role for the SPC will be providing data to members.
"The kind of work we will do is analytical in each of the sectors but particularly in statistics - we have a resource statistics programme - to try and look at the kind of indicators that will be used to measure success in the post 2015 development agenda."
The SPC's Dr Jimmy Rodgers, who in January will be replaced by Dr Colin Tukuitonga.
