Archeologists have had to rename a public lecture about an extinct species of human, nicknamed Hobbits, after an objection by a company which holds some of the rights to JRR Tolkien's books.
The species known as Homo floresiensis were one metre tall humans with large feet which lived on the island of Flores, in Indonesia, 18,000 years ago.
A free public lecture was planned at Te Papa Musemon Saturday, titled The Other Hobbit.
Mike Morwood, who was one of the scientists who discovered the species, told Nine to Noon they were forced to change the name after lawyers for the Saul Zaentz Company, which owns some rights to the Hobbit books, objected.
