Fire and Emergency has stood down for the night two helicopters that have been helping to put out a fire on the Lewis Pass Road.
Crews will monitor the scene overnight and more will arrive in the morning.
Earlier the two helicopters with monsoon buckets were helping to put out the fire, which closed State Highway 7 from Hanmer to Springs Junction.
One lane of State Highway 7 through the Lewis Pass has since reopened.
The fire flared up at Engineers Camp shortly after 3pm.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said at its worst, the fire stretched 150m along the road, and across 80m of bush.
He said the flames reached heights of 30ft, but the fire was contained before any local businesses or properties were put at risk.
