PNG High Commissioner comments on Fiji constitution needs

15:05 pm on 15 February 2013

Papua New Guinea's high commissioner to Fiji, Peter Eafeare, says Fiji's draft constitution must reflect the desires and aspirations of the country's citizens.

Fiji Live reports Mr Eafeare as saying the constitution must include the basic tenets of the bill of rights.

He says it must have a strong element of natural justice, which is a critical and traditional part of any constitution.

The regime's draft constitution, which replaces the scrapped draft drawn up by the Constitutional Commission, was expected to be made public before the end of last month.

It is not known when it will be released.
