Columbia Records said on Tuesday a new studio album by Bob Dylan will be released in September to mark the 50th anniversary of his debut album.

Tempest will feature 10 new and original songs.

Dylan's last album in 2009, Together Through Life, sold more than a million copies and debuted at No. One in both Britain and the United States.

Dylan, 71, this year received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his profound impact on popular music and American culture.

His first album, Bob Dylan, released in March, 1962, initially did not sell well.

But The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963, established him as a poetic writer of protest songs and a raw, original new voice.
