The Cook Islands cabinet will decide on Sunday whether or not extend a ban on incoming air travel.

The air border closed earlier this month after the emergence of a second outbreak of Covid-19 in New Zealand, dashing hopes of a travel bubble between the two.

Prime Minister Henry Puna says the government was working to ensure safe passage home for stranded Cook Islanders as soon as possible.

He says cabinet will review the situation on Sunday.
