After more than a year of campaigning, in what is being called a historic election, Republican candidate Donald Trump has triumphed over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
To win, they needed to be the first to reach 270 of the 538 state-by-state electoral votes.
It will take some time for the final results to be counted, and some states had not yet been called for either candidate late on Wednesday.
