A tertiary education is no longer enough to guarantee you a job. So what are recruiters looking for when faced with a pile of CVs, and what can you do to make yourself stand out? The Wireless talked to recruiters at some of the best and most desirable workplaces in New Zealand.
Trade Me placed third in the medium-to-large workplace (150-399 employees) in this year's Kenexa Best Workplaces Awards; it was also a finalist in 2008, 2010, 2011 and last year. Its headquarters are in the NZX building on the Wellington waterfront, and it also has offices in Auckland and Christchurch. Trade Me prides itself on its “fun, vibrant work environment” that allow for employees to mix work and play. “In between hard-out work stints, we like to relax with a coffee, a game of pool, shared lunch or a ride down the office slide.” Its seventh value is “don’t be a dick”, which, says chief executive Jon MacDonald, “means what it says.”
