Firefighters have extinguished a blaze which filled a 20-storey Auckland apartment and hotel building with smoke Saturday evening.
Fire and Emergency Services shift manager Craig Dally said they were called to the blaze at Spencer Apartments on Byron Avenue in Takapuna at 8pm.
Smoke was reported to have reached the building's 20th floor, and residents were evacuated.
No one was injured.
Dally said the fire appeared to have started in the building's basement laundry.
Thirteen fire appliances went to the scene and doused the flames, which Mr Dally said was now out.
He said the smoke was clearing and residents were able to return to their homes last night.
