As pubs prepare to host the rugby tonight, a Christchurch cat cafe is playing Cupid and match-making dozens of the region's single men and women.
Catnap cafe will host a speed dating event this evening, giving strangers four minutes to chat to their match while surrounded by rescue cats that live at the Sydenham cafe, in a bid to raise money for Christchurch Cat Rescue.
Organiser and Catnap co-owner Nate Ball said it was a worthy cause for people who preferred the idea of cats and finding love over rugby.
"A major thing is that we work with Cat Rescue Christchurch and we are coming into kitten season at the moment so we are raising money for them and also if we can find some matches after this too - that would be pretty awesome," he said.
Mr Ball said the two age groups 20-30s and 30-40s had already sold out.
The Catnap cafe hope to host similar nights in the future including LGBTQ events around speed dating.
