The man accused of murdering a woman and sexually violating her daughter in the Wellington suburb of Karori in early April can now be named as Joseph William Borton.

The 30-year-old's name suppression lapsed today.

Mr Borton faces ten charges including two of sexually violating a 12-year-old girl and recklessly impeding her breathing, and a charge of indecently assaulting a woman aged over 16.

The seriously injured girl was found in the same room as the dead woman on 5 April.

The police said the girl and the woman knew the man but were not related to him.

He is due to appear in the High Court in Wellington on 28 June.
