LNG project has negligible value for PNG - report

05:04 am on 30 April 2018

A report into the huge ExxonMobil liquefied natural gas project in Papua New Guinea says the country has not benefited from it.

The report called "Double or Nothing; The Broken Economic Promises of the PNG LNG Project" compiled by Jubilee Australia says the promoters of the scheme and then its PNG political backers made extraordinary claims about the growth Papua New Guineans could expect in the economy.

But four years down the road, with 7.9 million tonnes of natural gas exported, the gains are minimal or non-existent.

One of the writers is Paul Flanagan of PNG Economics and Don Wiseman asked him if the LNG project has been a disaster for PNG.
