Sexual harrassment driving Cooks' workers away from tourism

16:03 pm on 26 March 2018

A new study has revealed workers are leaving the tourism industry in the Cook Islands because of sexual harrassment by tourists.

Study participants told researcher Lisa Sadaraka felt that "dusky maiden"- style themes to market the Cooks, alcohol and skimpy costumes were among reasons for the tourists' behaviour.

Ms Sadaraka told Sally Round she felt like she'd opened Pandora's Box when she undertook her research in 2014.
