Manus is set to be the first Papua New Guinea province to be designated a corporate tax-free zone.
The Prime Minister James Marape announced the move at a summit in Port Moresby on Wednesday.
The Post Courier newspaper reported it was the first time the recently elected prime minister addressed the business community.
Mr Marape said one of the key areas of his leadership will be looking at economic zones in the country.
He announced that Manus will be a tax-free zone as part of a combination of policies aimed at stimulating economic growth.
He gave no details of how or when it would occur.
