Police are investigating a crash between a police car and another vehicle on State Highway 1, south of Timaru.

In a statement, police said emergency services were called about 11.20am on Sunday to SH1 between Craigie and Daniels roads.

One of the vehicles was a police car driven by an officer. Two people were in the second vehicle.

"Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the occupants of both vehicles were understandably shaken," the statement said.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash."

The road was temporarily blocked and both vehicles would be towed.

Hato Hone St John said they were notified at 11.30am on Sunday and responded with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.

Staff treated two people at the scene - one in a moderate condition and one with minor injuries. No one was transported to hospital, it said.
