World War II bomb still fatal

11:00 am on 2 June 2010

A World War II bomb has exploded in Germany, killing three people, as disposal experts were about to defuse it.

The fire department in the university town of Goettingen says six people were wounded, two seriously, when the bomb went off unexpectedly.

Thousands of residents had been evacuated beforehand so the 500kg bomb could be defused.

Bombs from World War II are regularly defused in Germany and rarely explode unexpectedly.
